First Post!

Hopefully the start of something good

First Post!

It’s finally published!

Honestly, making this had me stuck for a good while. My motivation, at first, was to create something I could show to future employers. Although, I found myself not being 100% happy with the result of writing posts that felt too rigid and performative.

This, along with the dreadfully boring CMS blog templates, is what prompted me to make something with a bit more character, and more of a place for me to talk about what I actually find interesting.

Although this does mean you should expect the stray fluff post every now and then of something not related at all to engineering ;)

The Blog Setup

This whole site is built as a single SvelteKit2 application, And it took a lotta meandering to finally reach that decision, along with several almost finished sites that were binned at the last moment.

I went into doing this without the desire to make it all from scratch and even tried some pre-made blog templates at first. (There was a good chance you would have been reading this on some of them. Fuwari in particular was a strong candidate.)

But in the end, I couldn’t find anything that had the aesthetic I was aiming for, or the flexibility of writing the markup yourself. So, I ended up settling for mdsvex, which makes writing these a bit easier, but still gives me the option to use custom components I may or may not use in other posts.

Speaking of visuals, you may notice that my entire site follows a certain aesthetic, a not-so-subtle nod to one of my favourite pieces of media that I might talk about later :)

What next?

Honestly, I’m not sure either. I’ll be making posts when I have free time (so, very rarely), and they’ll probably be on whatever I’m working on at the moment.

The topics will most likely be on robotics engineering, electrical engineering or software engineering ideas and projects. But I would also expect the occasional post on my other hobbies, shows or books I’ve read, or food I’ve tried recently.

A long-winded way to say I’ll be writing about whatever I find interesting.

And I hope you’ll find them interesting as well.
